Shell plans to expand retail,LNG,and clean energy businesses in India

The US-based oil major sees potential in the country's gas,fuel retail,and clean energy markets.The country earlier this year became the sole owner of Indian gas company Ha2ira LNG and Port after acquiring French-based Total's 26% stake in the company.According to Shell's India Chairman,Nitin Prasad,the acquisition will create”a fully-owned and-integrated Shell value chain”in India,which will have strong potential for LNG due to the government's increased share of natural gas,which has reached 15%.Prasad also predicts that the India's gas demand will increase from 54B m3/y currently to 80-90 B m3/y by 2025 at a 6-8% growth rate,exceeding growth in domestic production.Prasad also noted that LNG currendy makes up 50% of the country's total gas consumption.
