Fuji lifts first Iranian cargo since sanctions took hold

A VLCC loaded approximately 2MM bbl of Iranian crude over the weekend of Jan.19-20.Japanese refiner Fuji Oil Co.expects to receive the crude in Japan on Feb.9,although around half of the shipment will go to Showa Shell Sekiyu KK.A Fuji spokesperson noted that it took a while to iron out payment arrangements with banks,in light of the US sanctions against Iran even though Japan was granted a waiver.Fuji and Showa were also expecting another 2MM bbl to be loaded onto a VLCC on Jan.23 at Kharg Island(Iran).Other Japanese refiners-Cosmo Oil and JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy-had previously announced their intentions to resume loadings of Iranian crude before Jan.ends.
