Brian Hook, the US State Department's Special Representative for Iran, told S&P Global Platts in an interview on Nov.4 that the US has no intention of granting China Iranian san-ctions relief in exchange for a US-China trade deal."The United States is not looking to grant any sanctions relief until we have a final deal with the Iranian regime that addresses the range of threats they present to peace and security."Hook pointed to the recent sanctions levied on Chinese shipping firm COSCO Shipping for illegally transporting Iranian crude to China as an indication of the resolve of the Trump administration to"zero-out"Iranian crude exports."In the case of China, they now understand that we will sanction any sanctionable activity, especially illicit imports of Iranian crude oil."
