Naphtha demand hit by economic slowdown,competition from ethane and LPGs

According to IEA data,global demand for naphtha has dropped 85K b/d on the year during Jan.to Aug.2019.Despite seeing increased consumption in recent years,demand from the PC industry fell on declining economic activity and increased demand for competition feedstocks LPGs,which include propane,and ethane,which have been in ample supply due to the US shale boom.In Europe,cracker maintenance was higher than usual from April to May,which brought demand growth for both OECD and non-OECD countries lower on the year.
