Siraj Energy teams up with Total and Marubeni for 800-MW solar plant

Qatari-based Siraj Energy,in an effort to lower its carbon footprint while increasing available energy production for export,has agreed to a 60% stake in the solar plant in the country's capital of Doha.France's Total and Japan's Marubeni will share the remaining 40% stake in the project,which will be under the Build,Own,Operate and Transfer model for 25 years.According to Qatar Petroleum,which owns a 40% stake in Siraj Energy,the 60% stake will cost 1.7B riyals($470MM).CEO of Qatar Petroleum Saad al-Kaabi stated,”This plant is the first of its kind in the state of Qatar with a total capacity of 800 MW which equals about 10% of Qatar's current peak electricity demand.This project comes in implementation of Qatar's policy to diversify the production of energy and to increase reliance on and the efficiency of renewable energy,which is a basic cornerstone for a sustainable future for the generations to come.”
