While a number of global petroleum companies have already utilized carbon capture & storage (CCS) or plan to employ the technology to reduce GHG emissions, a plant in the US designed to capture carbon emissions produced from a coal plant has so far shown mixed results. The $1B Petra Nova Plant in Houston, TX was designed to decarbonize emissions from a nearby coal plant, but a report filed by the plant's operators to the US DOE showed that the technology at facility capture 92.4% of CO2 emissions from the plant were captured, but multiple outages have caused the system to only sequester 7% of carbon emissions.
