摘要

Based on numerical 3D simulation of induction coupled plasma, optimal conditions are found for spheroidization of "difficult to process" ceramic powders. Yttria-stabilized zirconium oxide powder, widely used for thermal barrier coatings, was chosen as an example. Transparent and matt type of spherical particles are obtained as a result of the plasma processing. An interpretation is given for the observed phenomenon. The processed powders were tested and compared with alternatives by means of their arc plasma deposition to create a barrier coating.
