Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam has signed Virginia House Bill 2514, which raises the cost of a Virginia vehicle safety inspection to $20 from $16, effective July 1. This is the first time the inspection fee has been raised in 13 years, according to Steve Akridge, executive director of the Virginia Automotive Association (VAA). Of the extra $4 fee, $3.80 will go to the inspecting shop and 20 cents to the state police, he said.
