POSCO Raises Domestic Price of Plates for Shipbuilding by 50,000 KRW

According to a source, South Korea's POSCO has begun negotiations with domestic shipbuilders, including HyundaiHeavy Industries (HHI), on plates for shipbuilding for shipments in the first half (1H, from January to June) of 2019. It hasoffered a 50,000 KRW ($44) markup (per ton). Japanese mills are already in the middle of their negotiations with threemajor South Korean shipbuilders including HHI on plates for Jan-Mar shipments, and requesting a $50 markup. Thisdecision of POSCO will be a tailwind for the Japanese mills.
