摘要

Hypnos (the Latin Somnus), the personification and god of sleep, is described by the Ancient Greeks as a brother of Death (Thanatos), and as a son of Night (Hes). In works of ancient art, Sleep and Death are represented as two youths sleeping or holding inverted torches in their hands. Since then ancient people have observed the strong relationship between sleep and multiple pathological conditions.
