Beyond accountability: learning from large-scale evaluations.

Evaluations of the effectiveness of large-scale programmes and initiatives are essential for learning and accountability in global health. Gradually, more retrospective impact evaluations are being undertaken, mostly with data from existing household surveys, to assess the effect of large-scale programmes on health outcomes or intervention coverage, but prospective evaluations of large-scale programmes are few and far between.
