Thamer Kadum Al Hilfi: looking ahead to a healthier Iraq

In 2006, Thamer Al Hilfi was awarded the title Middle East Doctor of the Year, for his efforts to modernise Iraq's medical education system, and as an acknowledgment of his research output, published in the Iraqi Journal of Family Medicine. He remains an influential figure in Iraq today, as the country triesto rebuild itself after three decades blighted by conflict, sanctions, and political instability.
