Infantile eczema caused by formula milk

In March, 2012, a 10-month-old girl with Down's syndrome was referred to our hospital with scaly erythema on her eyelids, scalp, and buttocks. Topical steroid ointment did not improve the rash, which gradually became exfoliative and exudative. The clinical features led to suspicion of zinc-deficiency geno-dermatosis acrodermatitis enteropathica, and a skin biopsy was done from one buttock. Histopathology showed acanthotic epidermis with parakeratosis and dilated vessels in the papillary dermis.
