As President Elect of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and de facto cheerleader for its official publication, the European Respiratory journal, one might think that Francesco Blasi would greet the prospect of a new top-tier respiratory medicine journal (we speak, of course, of The Lancet Respiratory Medicine) with lukewarm enthusiasm at best. But one would be wrong. "It's a win win", he says cheerfully. "It's always good to have another actor on the scene that can stimulate new studies and bring out the best science around the world."
