Karl Petry addresses two concerns about use of lymphadenectomy to stage pregnant patients with early-stage cervical cancer: is it safe, and is it useful?Petry claims that the procedure is "harmful", but although reported cases are not numerous, no major morbidity has ever been described. Moreover, laparoscopy in general during pregnancy seems feasible and safe before weeks 22-23 of gestation.1 If trained teams do laparoscopic lymphadenectomy, which they should, it cannot be described as harmful.
