We present an overview of our experiences working with helium and helium-related activities. Details of procedures for raw gas collection from thermal spring sites followed by methodology of helium enrichment plant working on the principle of cryo-condensation and a purification plant working on the principle of cryo-adsorption are given. A two-stage pressure swing adsorption system to pre-enrich helium at the thermal spring site and a mobile helium laboratory for exploring the abundance of helium at various thermal spring sites are discussed. A helium liquefier, which uses purified helium as the refrigerant for superconducting cyclotron is also presented. Keeping in mind the helium potential of India, an approach towards extraction to the tune of 99+ vol% from natural gas reserves in India to become self-reliant in Grade-A helium is described in detail.
