Serum Biochemical and Liver Antioxidant Effect of Salt and Lime Treated Jatropha (Jatropha curcas) Deoiled Seed Cake in Broiler Chicken

A study was undertaken to evaluate the biochemical and liver antioxidant effects of salt and lime treated Jatropha curcas deoiled seed cake (JSC) in broiler chicken. A significant (P<0.05) reduction in mean serum total protein, albumin, globulin and superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels and a significant increase in aspartate aminotransferase (AST), creatinine and tissue lipid peroxidation (LPO) levels were observed in raw JSC fed group in comparison to control birds. Significant improvement in above parameters was noted in salt and lime treated jatropha given groups when compared with raw JSC fed group.
