Retrospective Study on The Incidence of Coccidiosis in Rabbits and Goats

Coccidiosis is one of the economically important protozoan disease of animals. Rabbits and goats cases between February 2012 and February 2015 as per the autopsy register of the department of Veterinary Pathology, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy were analysed. It was found that 9.3% of rabbits and 9.1% of goats were positive for coccidiosis in the examination of intestinal contents. Among rabbits, 10.9% was hepatic coccidiosis. There was a seasonal and age predisposition for diseaseoccurrence. Rabbits of 1.5- 2.5 months of age and goats of 3 months were most susceptible. There was also a correlation between postmortem lesions (like intestinal nodules and necrotic patches in the liver) and occurrence of coccidiosis.
