Ultrasonographic and Haemato-biochemical Evaluation in Pyometra Affected Bitches

The ultrasonography and haemato-biochemical examination as tools for diagnosis of the pyometra condition in bitches. Ovariohysterectomy was performed in all the cases. Inappetence, depression, polydipsia, lethargy and abdominal distension with or without fever and vaginal discharge were observed in affected animals. Ultrasonographic examination revealed fluid filled uterus with variable wall thickness and proliferative changes. Gross examination revealed distension of uterine horns by capacious amount of pus. Haematobiochemical examination decreased Hb and increased TLC towards higher limit, and neutrophilia was observed in all the cases of pyometra. The ALT, AST were increased in 2 cases. The ALP increased in 5 cases and TP increased in 1 case of pyometra. The serum creatinine was increased in 3 cases and SUN was increased in 1 case of pyometra.
