Surgical Management of Canine Oral Malignant Melanoma - A Case Report

An eight years old intact male Labrador Retriever weighing 30kg was brought to Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital with the history of persistent oral haemorrhage, reluctance to chew, dysphagia and halitosis. Physical examination revealed a characteristic pigmented, ulcerated and hard mass in the right side of the upper premolar towards the soft palate. Based on clinical examination and cytology, the case was diagnosed as oral malignant melanoma. Surgical exstirpation of tumour mass performed under general anaesthesia. Animal recovered uneventfully on 10~(th) post-operative day without any complications.
