Field Evaluation of Food Baited Pheromone Glue Traps to Lure-And-Kill House Flies (Musca Domestica) in an Organized Poultry Farm

Glue traps baited with (Z)-9-tricosene and food attractants, fish meal, molasses and sugar were used to lure-and-kill house flies in poultry units. Out of the 38834 flies trapped, the highest trap catch (39.95%) was with (Z)-9-tricosene and food bait followed by food bait alone (33.35%) and control traps (26.68%). Traps baited with fish meal, molasses and sugar with (Z)-9-tricosene lured 37.96, 31.92 and 30.11 per cent flies, respectively. Male flies dominated trap catches (70.73% males vs. 29.26% females). A significant increase in trap catch with molasses and a decrease with fish meal and sugar was observed on three consecutive days.
