Trauma induced Primary Hypovolemic Shock in a Deer

A 17 years old male spotted deer was presented for post mortem examination with the history of blunt force trauma and sudden death. At necropsy, lacerated and punctured wounds were noticed on the left lateral thorax just above the elbow joint. Thoracic cavity showed presence of clotted blood with comminuted fracture of left fourth rib and rupture of right auricle. Due to heavy blood loss, the animal developed hypovolemic shock. Thus the case was diagnosed ashypovolemic shock due to blunt force trauma.
