The story of pi-conjugated isotruxene and its congeners: From syntheses to applications

Phenylene-based pi-scaffolds are gifted with rich and attractive chemistry because of their applications in organic electronics, well-known charge-carrier mobility, and high thermal as well as electrochemical stability. Among them, isotruxene and its isomer truxene although have dissimilar arrangements of the phenylene rings which results different conjugation effects nevertheless hold similar 2D-extented oligofluorene skeletons. Not surprisingly, the electrochemical and photophysical properties of isotruxenes are superior then truxenes because of ortho-para connectivity in isotruxene and meta-meta in truxene frameworks. Keeping the importance of isotruxene as a future material, herein we plan to disclose all the contents available related to this valuable pi-scaffold since its invention to till date, and we are pretty sure that this valuable review article will provide new turns to organic electronics. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first review which describes the chemistry of this beautifully simple yet much effective pi-conjugated star-shaped architecture. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd.
