Tsutomu Sugimori, President of the Petroleum Association of Japan (PAJ) and President of JXTG Holdings, commented in a press conference held on 18th that the domestic demand for gasoline “has recovered faster than we expected.” The demand has been edging up after the Japanese government lifted the state of emergency, and the current demand recovered to around 90% compared with the same month last year. Responding to the government’s intention to lift a restriction on movement across prefectures on 19th, the PAJ president also expects the demand “will rally to around 95% by the end of this month.”
