Vale S.A. produced 1.963 million tons of coal at Moatize coal mine in the period from January to March in 2020. This represents a decrease of 250,000 tons (11.3%) versus the year-earlier period. The production volume by coal type was 983,000 tons of metallurgical coal (down by 6.5% from the year-earlier period) and 980,000 tons of thermal coal (down by 15.7%). The production ratio of metallurgical coal was calculated to be 50.1%, up by 6.1 points from the prior period (from October to December in 2019). Besides, the coal sales volume during January to March stayed at 1.566 million tons, down by 828,000 tons (34.6%) from the year-earlier period. The details were 706,000 tons of metallurgical coal (down by 45.3%) and 860,000 tons of thermal coal (down by 22.0%), and the metallurgical coal sales dropped to a large extent.
