Michael Bloomberg sets his sights – and money – on ending coal

Despite the competitive nature of their relationship, coal and natural gas have quite a lot in common. The coal and natgas industries create a lot of good- paying jobs, they combine to provide the U.S. with most of its electricity and both of them are hated by billionaire and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Last week, Bloomberg announced he was going to spend a half-billion dollars to (A) shut down coal- fired power plants in the U.S. by 2030 and (B) stop natural gas from being the fuel of choice to replace the soon-to-be-shuttered coal plants.
