Anglo’s Q2 thermal output down 8%, met coal up 11%

Anglo American’s thermal coal production in the second quarter fell 8% on the year due to drought conditions at the Cerrejón mine in Colombia, while metallurgical output rose 11% during the same period. In its production report for the quarter ending June 30, the miner maintained its 2019 forecast at 22-24 mt for export met coal and 26-28 mt for thermal. Thermal coal production dropped to 9.46 mt in the second quarter from 10.27 mt a year ago, due to lower output in Colombian export coal and South African domestic coal.
