UP: Worst flooding problems have passed

The Midwest flooding starting at the end of the first quarter contributed to a double-digit drop in Union Pacific’s coal and coke volumes of 14%, on top of the ongoing headwinds of power plant retirements and contract changes, according to UP executives. UP continues to deal with the flooding impacts as the second quarter nears its first month of completion, but railroad executives insisted that UP has surmounted the worst of the impact.
