In a year when bad export news has been rolling in on a regular basis, India is throwing another log on the fire. According to reports, delayed firing of coal in the new brick kiln season beginning November-December in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has the potential to restrict the demand for U.S.-origin thermal coals in the coming few months. The news comes at a time when sales of high-Btu Northern Appalachian coal into India have slipped as buyers shifted to petroleum coke and other coal because of pricing.
