Utilities want coal, producers don’t have a lot piled up

There’s a bit of a logjam between the utilities that are trying to rebuild their stockpiles and the companies wanting to ship them coal and, for now, there’s not a whole lot that can be done about it. Phones are ringing at the coal companies, but the calls aren’t necessarily coming from buyers looking to wave around a handful of cash for more coal. Contracted tons are in demand and in the days since the weather has gone from the pits of winter to “Hey, April’s here!” there are some plants that would like to get their inventories back into the double digits.
