Duke Progress projects uptick in coal burn

Duke Energy Progress in its most recent fuel cost review year burned about 3.6 million tons of coal, down from 4 million tons the prior year, but is projecting a sharp rebound for coal burn coming up. That is among the points made by Brett Phipps, managing director, Fuel Procurement for Duke Energy Corp., in April 26 fuel cost testimony lodged with the South Carolina Public Service Commission. The purpose of his testimony was to describe the Duke Energy Progress fossil fuel purchasing practices for the period March 2018-February 2019 (called the “review period”) versus March 2017-February 2018 (the “prior review period”), and describe changes forthcoming for the period July 2019-June 2020 (the “billing period”).
