Coal carloads drop 15.6% in fifth week of 2019

The nation’s Class I railroads’ coal carloads ended the week of Feb. 2 fell by 13,963, or 15.6%, to 75,752 compared with the year-ago week, according to Association of American Railroads data. For the first five weeks of 2019, cumulative coal loadings logged in at 404,164 to average 80,833 over the five weeks, down 0.2% from the same 2018 period, according to AAR figures.
