Global power demand to rise 2%/yr to 2040 fueled by RES: IEA

London—Global demand for electricity could rise 2.1%/year to 2040 with power covering 24% of primary energy demand from 18% today, the IEA said in its World Energy Outlook 2019 Wednesday. Under a base-case Stated Policies scenario, electrification and other growth drivers would result in over 13,000 TWh additional demand for power in 2040, with Asia alone accounting for two-thirds of this growth.
