Singapore—Prices of Asian thermal coal were mixed amid talks of tightening Chinese import curbs, as demand for Chinese domestic coal continued to fall, market sources said Tuesday. Chinese customs were said to have stopped custom clearance in varying degrees for imported coal in Guangzhou and Fuzhou in south China since last Friday. Indonesian seaborne coal prices were seen stabilizing but offers remained high, as demand was expected to be strong with approaching winter and tight supply, said an Indonesia-based trader. “I’m seeing healthy demand from China, India and Vietnam as winter is around the corner,” he said.
