Australia’s Queensland government has offered to not increase coal royalties for three years but wants a commitment from the industry that it will contribute A$70 million ($48.5 million) to an infrastructure fund which would be used for improving economic and social infrastructure across resource communities. Government ministers met with coal companies on Thursday to discuss the situation and afterwards, Queensland’s deputy premier and treasurer Jackie Trad confirmed at a press conference that royalties would not be raised for the coming year when the government releases the budget on June 11.
