Indian power utilities’ April-June thermal coal imports rise 41% on year

Thermal coal imports by Indian power utilities rose 41% year on year to 18.45 million mt during the first three months of the current fiscal year 2019-20 that began April 1, according to latest data released by India’s Central Electricity Authority, or, CEA Thursday. Of the total,6.67 million mt was imported by 19 utilities in April- June for blending purpose, while 11.78 million mt was imported by 10 utilities, that they use for their power plants, the data showed.
