Teck sees solid global demand for coking coal, Q2 sales rise

Canadian miner Teck said global demand for coking coal “continues to be solid” as sales rose 2% on the year to 6.2 million mt in the first quarter and are projected to rise further. “Our sales book remained strong throughout the quarter,” Teck said, in a report late Monday. Teck expects Q2 sales to rise to 6.4 million- 6.6 million mt. “With steel pricing and world economies remaining sound, indications are that demand for steelmaking coal will continue to grow while supply issues continue to support prices,” Teck said.
