Singapore—The recent hikes in South African thermal coal prices have pivoted Indian buyers to explore alternative markets for arbitrage opportunities, sources said Wednesday. The price of Richards Bay 5,500 kcal/kg NAR at $70/mt FOB was beyond buyers’ expectations, said an India-based trader. “The reason behind the recent price hike at about $3-$5/mt each day seems ambiguous to most Indian buyers,” he said.
