摘要

The devastating earthquake which occurred in Latur, Maharashtra and its surroundings on 30 September 1993 had caused severe damage to human lives, livestock, settlements, etc. The subsurface geological/ geophysical properties do not as such indicate instability patterns which were hitherto unknown in this region of Deccan Trap area. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) interferometry offers a unique technique to assess the surficial damages and other changes using satellite-borne SAR data. Accordingly, interferograms have been generated using different dates of SAR data before and after the occurrence of this devastating earthquake, and an assessment of the damages has been attempted in a very preliminary way. Also, collation of subsurface geophysical data with SAR interferometry results has been done to investigate the causes of such earthquakes in this region.
