Atlantic thermal coal markets remain pressured by gas, oversupply

London—The Atlantic thermal coal markets began the week with relatively unchanged near-term outlook as European demand showed no real change from recent lows and South African export coal was supported by high trades. European coal demand was still beset by low natural gas pricing and even as EU carbon allowances fell to a four-month low, as reported by S&P Global Platts, and coal remained firmly out of favor in Europe’s energy mix.
