Purified terephthalic acid prices in Europe increased this week, but sources said that increases were slow and small, especially when compared with feedstock price moves. The spot price for paraxylene was at $1,517/mt Friday, up $67/mt on the prior week, adding to a $82.50/mt day-onday increase September 7 following the announcement of BP's force majeure at its PTA plant in Geel. Despite declaring force majeure from its site which produces 1.35 million mt/year of PTA and 560,000 mt/year of PX, the company has said it will meet 100% allocation until the end of September at least, according to sources.
