Northwest European polystyrene spot prices closed March largely unchanged from February as demand destruction visibly kicked in toward the end of the month. "It is true it began with an increase, but now it has gone into a rollover," said a source. Market sources said demand from the food packaging and disposable goods sector had been much lower in March than in January and February while demand from electrical equipment applications was also slow. "At the beginning of the year, it was OK, but now it is slowing," said a convertor. "It is linked to the building sector, and if you look at the construction scene in France and Italy, it is not looking so good for 2012."
