Asian ethylene prices spiked this week as spot activity surged on demand from China. The CFR Northeast Asia marker was assessed at $1,200/mt Friday, up $65/mt week on week and the FOB Korea marker at $1,150/mt, up $75/mt over the same period, as Chinese demand pulled spot parcels from South Korea. Offers for CFR China cargoes stood at $1,200/mt Monday, while FOB Korea sell ideas hovered at $1,140/mt. Early week, ethylene buyers were on the sidelines Tuesday, especially in China, where a series of typhoons delayed petrochemical shipments.
