Delays continue on Iraq’s southern export terminal upgrade

Basra-Iraq’s Khor al-Amaya Oil Terminal will remain offline indefinitely as work to replace a faulty pipeline has not yet started, two senior officials in Basra Oil Company’s exports department said. The Persian Gulf terminal, commonly referred to as KAAOT, could add 350,000 b/d to Iraq’s crude export capacity if repaired. The decades-old terminal requires a pipeline replacement to address leaks, dredging to enable larger tankers access and, after that, improved onshore pumping so that it can reach its capacity.
