Basra-Shell has handed over control of the 230,000 b/d Majnoon oil field to Iraq’s state-run Basra Oil Company three days ahead of a deadline, marking the end of Shell’s eight-year involvement in the project. Shell remains the 44% shareholder in the Basra Gas Company, an anti-flaring joint venture with the state-run South Gas Company, which holds 51%, and Mitsubishi which owns 5%.The oil major is also negotiating a vast petrochemicals project, called Nebras, with the Ministry of Industry and Minerals.
