Surappa 1 calculates the citations impact of the IITs in the area of materials science research to be 4.93 and compares it with the value of 3.57 for engineering in an earlier analysis by Prathap 2 . He concludes that this indicates that the ranking of IITs in engineering research is lower compared to their ranking in materials science research.
