Crude prices dip as coronavirus concerns put temporary ceiling on oil

Houston—Crude oil prices dipped June 30 as concerns over rising coronavirus cases in much of the world tamped down any growing optimism about slowly increasing global oil demand. Energy analysts said the NYMEX WTI and ICE Brent oil benchmarks are sitting in a “no man’s land” territory near $40/b waiting to see whether global crude upticks or another wave of coronavirus outbreaks dominate the third quarter. Some US states in the South and West are again imposing new distancing restrictions as new COVID-19 cases surge.
