Vietnam extends jet fuel tax cut to aid ailing aviation sector

Singapore-Vietnam’s recent move to maintain the environmental protection tax cut for jet fuel could provide some reprieve to the country’s domestic aviation industry as it deals with hurdles posed by the pandemic, industry sources said. The National Assembly Standing Committee had slashed the tax for jet fuel to Dong 2,100/liter (9 cents/liter) from Dong 3,000/liter, effective Aug. 1-Dec. 31, to support struggling air carriers. Under a resolution approved by the committee Dec. 10, the environmental protection tax for jet fuel will be maintained at Dong 2,100/liter from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2021.
