Tokyo—Japan’s crude imports retreated in September to the lowest level for the month in 53 years, with inflows expected to remain at multidecade lows for the rest of the year due to slow oil demand recovery during the coronavirus pandemic. September crude imports of 2.14 million b/d were the lowest since 1967, according to preliminary data released Oct. 30 by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
