Moscow—Belarus’ Naftan refinery has started unloading the first-ever barrels of US crude to be delivered to the eastern European country, refinery operator Belneftekhim was quoted by Belta news agency as saying June 11. The delivery of Bakken crude by rail car to Belarus marks an intensification of efforts by Russia’s closely allied western neighbor to diversify its crude intake, following a dispute over the pricing of its regular Russian crude imports, and echoes similar efforts by EU member Poland.
